Tech Tip: Ransomware Prevention is Better than the Cure

Criminals have been using ransomware for many years to try and extort money from companies, including many attacks in the food processing industry (some very recently). Ransomware is malware which encrypts the target victim's data. The attacker then tries to get the victim to pay the ransom for the key to decrypt their files. Ransomware attacks are becoming more common, and it is estimated that the attacks have cost upwards of $25 billion worldwide in 2020. 

Below are some basic tips for protecting against ransomware: 

  • Don't click links in emails
  • Virus scan emails for malware
  • Install firewalls and endpoint protections
  • Keep current backups
  • Protect your valuable information
There are many other precautions that can be taken to help prevent ransomware. While there is no definitive blueprint for prevention, keeping employees educated and keeping malware detection/prevention tools up-to-date are recommended for all companies. Welcome, New Employee: Seth LaPorte

CFS welcomes Seth LaPorte to the organization as the newest Service Technician. Seth has earned his Electrical Electronics Engineering Degree and has experience in the field as a former Security Electronics Tech at GreenRock Correctional.

Seth recently relocated from Halifax, VA with his wife and their 4-year-old son. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, watching movies and exploring their new area. 

We are pleased to have Seth on the team and know you will enjoy working with him!
